Sonho de uma Noite de Verão

A Midsummer Night’s Dream

In A Midsummer Night’s Dream (1594/96), Shakespeare, taking inspiration from classical mythology, merges several stories, presenting characters in conflict and sparking confusion, in a game of successive amorous encounters and disagreements. This comedy alternates between reality and fantasy; between the order of political and social power and a chaotic world represented by the forest where fairies and elves dwell. Before the wedding of Theseus and Hippolyta, a couple desperate to escape the laws of the city flees to the forest, with another pair behind them; a troupe of amateur actors are already there rehearsing a play to be performed on the wedding day. Here, Oberon and Titania have quarrelled. This is when Puck appears and causes the chaos of love… and everything becomes one long dream.
