Sofia Dias & Vítor Roriz

O Lugar do Canto está Vazio

The Place at the Corner is Empty

This play emerges from the confrontation between the research and choreographic composition tools of Sofia Dias and Vítor Roriz and the bodies and sensibilities of the Companhia Maior cast. The play begins with an appeal to experimentation, which is no more than an attempt to find that which we can’t control or which places us in a zone of conflict, of risk or even of breakdown. It seems to be in this place, between what is controlled and what is unfamiliar, that the body takes on a quality of the present – a transparency that allows us to see its way of acting and thinking. O Lugar do Canto está Vazio (The Place at the Corner is Empty) plays with an alternation between abstract and figurative, recognisable and strange, individual and collective, biographical and fictional. A composition of sound scores, gestures linked with words, brief narratives interrupted by movements and objects that give way to voices.
